Ethiopia is the highest in Africa in bee colony population producing the highest amount of the continent’s honey with 43,000 tons registered per annum. Nevertheless, 80% of the honey is consumed locally with honey mead processing and the remaining eaten in different forms. The Ethiopian honey didn’t yet thrust captured a significant market share in the export market due to the traditional way of production which hardly meets the quality requirements of exotic markets as well as uncompetitive price.
